Energy Conservation Scenarios

The scenario starts as soon as you enter the property. You will have full freedom, as in real life, to explore the property and interact with various items which are available. Highlighted screens are displayed indicating that these items can be clicked on and interacted with.

Each property has a different budget to use on improvements, this has been determined by the costs associated with upgrading the inefficient elements in that property. Your aim is to save money by replacing and improving inefficient items. The savings are shown as a percentage of total energy saved and cost over the period of a year. The overall target is to save 20% of existing energy consumption in each property.

When you reach the 20% energy saving target, a screen will be shown acknowledging that you have completed your challenge. However, you can continue the game to explore other areas in the house and save even more energy, or you can complete the scenario and start a new one. When you have decided to end the game, a results screen will be displayed showing a summary of all your actions in that property, including:
  • A list of all the improved items
  • The actions you have taken
  • The amount of energy you have saved
  • The cost of the improvements
  • The annual saving made
  • The payback period when the investment and savings equal out.
To make the game more competitive, you will receive a score at the end of the scenarios. This score is based on the amount of energy you have saved, the time spent to save it and the budget you have left over. To apply the energy you have saved to a real situation, an indicator showing the period that a TV or energy efficiency lights can be powered from the saved energy is displayed.
